To Sleep, To Die

Strange to think of myself
as asleep.
Eyes closed, hands clenched
to a pillow
while visions of young gods
run through my mind.
My body stops, I can no longer breathe
and I have to exit my slumber
to remind myself to live.
This cycle repeats itself
for hours
as though
my struggle for life
were the seasons of the year
or the phases of my moon-
waxing and waning always.
I believe I would sleep better
if he were here.
He who has not yet a face
or a name, for that matter.
Yes, I know I could breathe then.
I could calm my dreams-
my gods in their frenzied orgy.
I could sleep again
if he were here.

Your Raphael has put you through a great deal. It is a hard lesson. One I didn't learn for a long, long time. Love is so seductive, so painful, and yet so necessary. I wish you a solid future.
