HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

Contributed by Steeleyes on Friday, 20th February 2004 @ 07:14:44 AM in AEST
Topic: political

Looking at the history of Europe as an example it came from a myriad of small nation states which were constantly at war. Slowly but surely over the years these little statelets joined to become nations. Later, after two catestrophic world wars these nations formed an alliance. The European Union. In the next few months ten more nations will join making a union of 25 nations. This progress from warring statelets with everything to win through fighting to a union of states where each one can only LOSE through fighting has brought stability.

So, looking at the world as it is now I see there are states which STILL have much to gain through fighting. They need to be brought in from the cold, brought in to a self-protecting union where it is more negative for them to fight than to build peace. I would like to see an ultimate total unification on this planet. Not in the sense that we all become the same but in the sense that we belong to an agreed structure of peace where we all have access to the same rights, protection and privileges under law where there is NOTHING to gain by fighting our neighbours and everything to win by staying within the group and living in co-operation toward the ending of poverty, disease, ignorance and war.

I envisage four initial groupings:

The Americas
Europe
The Middle East
The Far East

If you get down to four you can really make decisions that count. When you have too many states you have too much conflict of interest and you get all the usual political game-playing. The world is tired of that and the world that is waiting to be born, and has been waiting for so long now, cannot come into being with the presence of these conflicts of interest.

Look where we have come to in 200 years of industrialisation and growth. This growth has been exponential. Consider that we have to survive not only the NEXT 200 years of growth but the next 5,000,000,000! We cannot survive this as a green world without moving from a 'Have It All' world to a 'Be All You Can BE' world. There are only about 1,000,000 good 'Have It All' lifetimes to be had and do we REALLY all want to be fighting to be someone who HAS one of those? The sane choice is to emphasise BEING rather than HAVING, living an increasingly LOW MAINTENANCE lifestyle and enjoying the nuance and pleasure of being again, sharing and co-operating with neighbours and communities, building self-worth and forwarding the global village.

To get to the global village will take communication, connection and the building of real bonds of humanity across the globe. We won't get there with the usual political techniques of divide and conquer. The Bush agenda is an agenda of fear, hatred and ultimately more death. The world is at a crossroads and simply cannot tolerate the same old ugly political lying resulting in others dying. It is crunch time and if we want to survive we have to COME TOGETHER...
