The Common Flu

Contributed by Jason_Robert_Britt on Friday, 20th February 2004 @ 06:11:43 AM in AEST
Topic: SongLyrics

This pond has frozen over
Thin ice beneath the sober
Cracks in the ice
A reflection of our grins

Strapped on a pair of skates
Peeked into heaven's gates
Watched angel's fall
So heavy with their sins
(the world slept)

Together and bound
In mock love and slavery
Fleshless but crowned
In shackels, on our knees
An eternity found
Of hardship and misery
Clench your lord's gown
Wipe his ass with your sleeve

The hand of God's a glove
A condom filled with love
We dare not touch
Now the feeling's gone away

Look in the rearview mirror
Maybe you'll see me clearer
Waving good-bye
With nothing else to say
(and I wept)

this religious stew
is our common flu
I hate you
cause you hate me too

Together and bound
In mock love and slavery
Fleshless but crowned
In shackles, on our knees
An eternity found
Of hardship and misery
Clench your lord's gown
Wipe his ass with your sleeve

I like this a lot. The metaphor of God's glove was excellent, as well as the larger viral metaphor, too. Well done.

i'm finding it harder and harder to understand why i haven't gone back and read all your work from the beginning. each one of your writes that i've read have been totally different and yet they all seem to have that same dark bite. that same sneer behind the statement. you have an unfair amount of talent.

Do you hate all religion or do you hate fanaticism? Your metaphors are good yet underneath them is an anger that it is hard to comprehend that says all religion is wrong, or seemingly so.
