MY SCARLET HAT CROCHET

I'm almost certain, you'll remember this song
"In My Easter Bonnet with all
the frills upon it.....?
That song was written for me I must admit.
Of course, that was in my former life,
before this one.
I can remember so vividly.....wearing it,
such a great grand notion!
There I was, walking down the avenue....
I've always loved the feel of a gigantic, noble
bonnet new!
Now that I'm more sophisticated, I crochet...
When I wear my scarlet flowered bonnet,
I simply can't resist...
striking a pose in my scarlet chapeau!
There I go...walking proudly
with my head up high!
Hoping everyone I pass will admire
it as I go by!
When you grow older you need a
furry purple boa......
Now you're in real style, I must say.....
strutting along dancing the rhumba!
People in my city where I live, are
gracious and understanding....
They realize I'm getting up in years,
eccentricity with my aging.
I really don't get out of the house that often.
It's a joy to be set free,
like a scarlet, purple woman!
I can feel the eyes concentrating on me...
It's such a thrill to know, I can still
draw the attention of young and old, bravely!
Just yesterday, in my beautiful clothes....
I was stopped and asked to pose?
In my strikingly scarlet bonnet with my
neck boa clear to my toes!
Flattery will get you anywhere with me, if only
you treat me kindly....
A photographer from the newspaper asked if
he could have my picture grandly?
I wrapped my purple boa several times
around my neck.
I heard him snicker, he thinks I'm
a glorified redneck.....?
Who cares? I'm having fun...what the heck!
So many in my audience were
laughing loudly.
I was so sure they were enjoying
my dancing proudly.
Next thing I know, the police show....It's
known as "Disturbing the Peace,"
they told me!
I protested, "But it's beautiful woman month!"
I was only doing my part, being carefree?"
"Look lady, we could care less what you
claim to be doing!
You're blocking the sidewalk,
and your dancing is daunting!"
I've never been so thrilled, they handcuffed
me on the spot, that young officer
so handsome....
Yipeeeeeeeeethey are taking me to jail....
now I can write my experience,
in a brand new poem!
