Prayers and Tears

They all waved the soldier goodbye,
As the train pulled out not a dry eye,
Off to fight in some foreign field,
Come back soldier, don’t be killed.
Forward amongst the guns afire,
Sleepless fighters begin to tire,
Some of those who were brave,
Have the word “Honor” on their grave,
The smoke, the smell, this living hell,
Our soldier hidden in a forest dell,
Fire exchanged, more body bags,
Confidence in our tomorrows’ sags.
Family get a call saying no need to grieve,
Our soldier wounded, coming home on leave,
Prayers, tears and thanks for coming through,
And you know the soldier, she smiled too.
