An Alcoholic's Plea

Contributed by jacktripper on Tuesday, 17th February 2004 @ 09:05:13 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

An Alcoholic’s Plea

From every incision I dwell further into remission
A drop is but a succulent taste.
How’d I waste my time on leaving a beverage thirsting my mind.
I squander a rhyme in thought I bark out and caught laughter
I’m not an actor but my motions are ever so staged
I’m enraged, puzzled like a jigsaw with sharp edges protruding
I’m secluding myself to locked cells and permanent hells.
The sound of bottles vibrates an irritation in my ears.
The echo of cheers, make my hands clench fists of pillows
I wish to kill those roadster cyclists, sport jockey intoxications
My sterilizations of non-alcoholic measures are driving me insane
I can’t stand the pain my shadow walks like a desperate insomniac
I want to null my contract and swallow my whole existence
All my persistence is made of contents deadly under the influence
I’m the fluids that chemically imbalanced my deepest stakes
All my hates bleed in veins of whiskey & rye.
I cry salt dying for lemons and Bacardi.
I lost my right to party in fact I may never see heaven again.
I lost my friend of a friend because they all can still breathe suds
Gasp buds, sulk on bar tables, bark at nobody’s and burst a belch.
My health, my life, my family are all intoxicated with my poison
They were in prison when I was the lunatic assaulting my wife
That knife, that slap, that blood all for the love of alcohol
I’ve died from all my sins I’m back to suffer now
My world is how to be sober and live with my ways
But my days are counting backwards quicker
When liquor, went thicker in my veins.
No more games, blames and whose it names
The point I make still remains the same.
I’m in pain I need relief a scotch, a vodka or a J&D
Just help me just pour it for me
Listen it’s just an alcoholic’s plea.

Deep breath. Wow! I thought I knew obsession, but maybe I really don't. What a ride.

A well written poem. I too know that pain of alcoholism. I take one day at a time. Forgive myself, and pick myself up each day to live a life the best I can. Without alcohol, I now see the beauty in all things. Thank you for the poem.
