Ode To Summer Bliss

Contributed by jazz on Saturday, 14th February 2004 @ 05:10:42 PM in AEST
Topic: happypoetry

On a summer day-
I like to sit and reminisce-
of moments of days past-
and our summers of bliss.

I think about the river-
and the swimming place-
I remember making mud pies-
and smearing them on our face.

We were eating apple pie-
without using a spoon-
and sleeping ‘neath the stars-
waving to the man in the moon.

Of leap frogs and lily pads-
and kissing toads to find a prince-
fishing with worms in the pond-
and using sheets to make tents.

Our tree houses were great-
for playing hide and seek-
for taking naps when we were bored-
oh yeah that was neat.

Who can forget Old Hank's farm-
where we would go to play-
help him feed the animals-
it took us all day.

Miss Grimly lived right down the street-
Boy she was a mean old bitty-
she was high society they said-
came from down in the city.

So, here I sit in my rocker-
watching the young ones outside-
Swinging on the tree swing-
wishing they could fly.

A smooth wind starts to blow-
and death takes me away-
where I will be young again-
and summer is everyday.

~Dedicated To My Grandmother~

Oh Jazz this is incredible.......peaceful........and joyful ride down memories lane. Some Grandma's just have a way. I had one like that too! She would give us wax paper from around the bread packaging....so we could slide down the barrel fire escape on the school next door.
She was always so kind....and what a marvelous tribute to her memory......she would be so proud of you!
Lovely poem

Wow,this was a nice dedication,I loved the fact that I could imagine every thing written,it seemed so fresh and I could almost smell summer's wind through it.I'm sure your grandma is very proud of this,it came from the heart and it shows..Very well done, you have a very nice way with words.
