The Familiar Returns

The men marched forth
Swords in hand
The man was weary
Of what lies ahead.
The sky shined bright
Their faces tight
For over that hill
Their faith awaits.
A feeling arises
A familiar one
A fog engulfs them
From all around.
In the unspoken word
From the heart that is heard
“Do do not go on!
For I shall pray."
The man looks to his soldiers
“I’ll handle this”
He walks towards the mist
With a smile on his face.
“Do not fear, my angle
You are my familiar you hear
You’ll be watching over us
Incase we fall.”
The mists head turns low
Her features are crisp
“I beg of you Sir Knight
Please, do not go on!”
The man puts his hand to his heart
A noble honor that is
For a Knight he maybe
But brave his is not.
“You are here with us
In the heavens so high
For you to worry
I would question, why?”
The mist reaches to him
Her hand through to his heart
A cold windy chill
Runs down his spine.
A pain unlike never felt before
His eyes go dim
From what he sees
Is unlike never before.
A girl so sweet
A love so far
A woman so kind
Is not no more.
“Is this it”?
The man shouts
“Is this your fear?
I will leave you for thee?”
The mist backs away
Taking away her hand
Her smile returns
Her features so bright.
“No Sir Knight
For you are blind
The woman you love
Is not of this kind.”
