The fields that once shined pure and sweet
Hail the rumble of marching feet
The winds of war blow on high
Storm clouds gather in the sky
Fire spits the twisted lead
Dear blood runs from the head
One by one the proud men fall
So says the war god’s law
Bayonets, Bayonets O devils friend
The sweet body you do bend
Blood curses the pure ground
To the river it is bound
Red River, Red River O sweet dark tell
What venomous bite do you hail
Bound for glory O what a lie
All of you fools are damned to die

I can imagine the great wastes of WW1 and reading this on one of the famous battlegrounds. The smell of cordite still pollutes the air and mind when reading your poem.
