The Little Girl Sat in the Corner

Contributed by SkYYBLu on Monday, 9th February 2004 @ 10:24:36 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

The little girl sat in the corner
Dark and alone she was
As she was everyday
School children would stare and wonder
She smiled and said "hello"
With a false twinkle in her eye
No one would answer
Holding her life by a thread
She wondered if tomorrow would be
Another repeat of the same defeat
She looked upon tomorrow with dread
Yet she held her head up high
And said to herself with a smile
"Tomorrow will be different"
"Tomorrow I know they'll say hi"

"Look at the girl in the corner,"
Strangers inquired, with intrigue
"Why is she so alone?"
Without a second thought, they left her there
Hoping that tomorrow,
She would find somewhere else to go

The little girl sat in the corner
Weeping bitterly
As she did everyday
But today the children did not care
No one noticed she was even there
The school bell rang
Children went out to play
The little girl still waiting there
Decided not to wait anymore
She decided that hope
Was for those who mattered
So the little girl
Abandoned her little corner
Forsaking all she'd fallen for

Tomorrow came by in a flash
The sun rose up high
The school bell rang
The children went to school with delight
Yet when chance came upon a little boy
Taking notice to the distilled silence
Of the empty little corner
He began to scream aloud
"Look!" he screamed in shock
The little girl!
She is not there!
The children stood in awe
A minute or two went by
But then went on to tick tack toe
Playground games awaited them

Yet none of the children ever knew
That this was the last time they would ever see
The little girl in her little corner
And no one ever knew
The dark and lonely little girl
Wanted a friend
More than life itself
So one day without a shadow of doubt
She tasted bitter end

This was very nicely written..But still, how sad!And to think that there are people suffering like this who DO go to these ends...Your write really managed for me to sense the immense pain this hopeful little girl was feeling.
