Regretted Fate

A dowdy house on the corner of my block
Loathing any attempts to slumber
A peculiar frame of wood and nails
Within it's walls it tells of secrets
Diaries and accounts of all who have ever entered
A benevolent smile scribbled with an auburn crayon
Crumbs of some sort being scurried along by mice
A calming breeze circulating through the empty room
The aroma of tumeric lurking through the kitchen
Run away rain snuck through broken windows
Now laying stagnant on the filthy floor
One small meager footprint, perhaps a size two
Pressed into the dust on the stairs
An earsplitting scream emitted from the darkness
A foreboding cloud of regret lulls in the air
In a corner of a wall in a room of this house
A roach creeps out of gun powder laced hole
Cobwebs gracefully fall as the roach pulls them free
An irony here in a right handed shot producing a home for bugs
A simple faded outline of a rug removed
Rotting, molding blackish truths
Producing bubbles in the wood stain on the stairs
An understuffed rabbit, the color of royalty and missing one eye
Still laying in it's final place of rest
A lullaby whispering with the humming lights
A once troubled life sat there in the living room
Staring blankly through burdened tears
Her hand clutching a tool for death
Hoping to open a gateway to fated freedom
A cry for Mom was heard the second the trigger was pulled
Anxiety lifted as the moment was passed
Her sleek slender hands now folded in prayer
The urge to die had missed
Prayers of forgivenss came forth from her lips
She knelt in front of a homemade pine table
Where a picture of her daughter cried out
Overjoyed at her decision to stay
Thanking God for the flash of memories that last second
Rushing down the stairs was a river of blood
Collecting in a pool brushed by her dusky hair
Punctured through a peach sundress
Lodged inside a once beating heart
The bullet that missed had found another
As the house now caves with the power of the wrecking ball
The childs soul finally escapes the regretted fate
And a mother weeps once more...

Wow, I am not sure what to say here. So many times, we lose sight of the thins in life that are most important, family, friends, and the power to breathe. We walk a narrow pathway, and we end up scared, and alone. Desperate time, seeking desperate measures. And then, just when you thought you could change your mind, the deed is done. Good-bye...

Wow....I got goosebumps reading this. What a sad poem but so true....how we lose sight and become so selfish and how things could be oh so much worse...great poem. |
