Can the sun be warmer than today,
Will the waves still lick the beach,
Where now a more perfect day,
What we tend to call “a peach”.
Dripping ice cream chased by tongues,
Dads asleep, or least so it seems,
Dirty kids shouted at by their mums,
Away from the pressures, enter a dream.
Just once a year the world stops still,
From the grey industry, into heaven,
All driven to the coast by me uncle Bill,
A day trip to Torquay, in Devon.

Nice!....... but will you forgive a little cloud of remminiscing.
My first weeks in the RAF during WW II were spent in Torquay. We were billeted at The Grand Hotel. All the hotels had been taken over .
Several squads were marching along the promenade when a Luftwaffe Ju 88 hurtled in off the sea at low level guns blazing,
in less than two seconds there was not a soul in sight on that promenade.
Somehow I've never thought of Torquay in quile the same way since.

Good of you to drop by, Jon...
This leaves me with such a warm feeling... on a morning when I'm a bit depressed.. Thank you.
Hugs,
Jenni |

It was so nice to read something by you again. This was a joy to read. I could see the imagery in my mind. Wonderful, simply wonderful to read. Kie |
