just like you left me

Contributed by Cancer on Saturday, 7th February 2004 @ 02:21:08 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

on the wall, there was a clock
with no hands with which to tell
the time
though i knew it was near
the time when everything would stop

beyond the windows
Nothingness
i didn't have to strain to guess
i closed the shades to block the view
i knew it well enough

from room to room i wandered
but, when the time came
i never found you
when i needed you most
you weren't there

i made it through before
by force, by necessity
not design
sheer will and spite drove me on
but now, i'm out of all of those things
and though the clocks never tell
my time has come

i want to whisper things to you
before i'm gone for good
i want to tell you everything i couldn't before
reveal every secret, every dark deed
but, now that execution time has rolled around
there is no one to talk to but myself

i guess i'm just a fool
for thinking that any of it mattered
by the time you read this
you won't even know who wrote it
just another faceless ghost
haunting your window pane
just another reluctant memory
to be consigned to mental flame

and as i slowly fade away in Death
alone, just like you left me
i spit one final curse at you (wherever you are)
and pray that you can never forget me
