CHEEZY

Raising three children all alone, without any
family, can be a hard old road to hoe!
How can I teach them all the important
things, that they surely must know?
Since I worked at the newspaper,
I was well informed.
The newspaper story said it was a fire,
their whole lives had been transformed!

I clipped their picture on my frig, and that
night we sat down to talk.
The picture showed a Mother, one small girl,
and older girl by the sidewalk.
In the background, their home had been
burned completely to the ground!
I always asked my children questions,
to make them think more profound!

We haven't much, but they have
nothing at all?
I got down the canned goods
and stacked them in our hall.
A large box we filled with clothes,
The older girl was my daughter's size,
so she gave one good knit outfit.
Heavy shirts and jeans I could submit.

My small little girl was watching,
curiously, but didn't move.
My little son too, was intrigued,
but he hadn't yet decided to approve.
I suggested toys, games, puzzles,
even an old train of his.
He was really puzzled now,
like this was some kind of a quiz!?!

I could barely hold back the tears,
when my wee little girl stepped to the box.
She laid her favorite "Cheezy" Mouse
carefully among the smocks.
"But, honey, you don't have to give
them your favorite little mouse!
What will you do without him
to love around the house?"

With teary eyes she replied,
"But "Cheezy" has always made me so
happy, maybe he will her too!"
That's when it cllicked in, and my little
son came back with his favorite "Kung Fu"
gingerly placing it next to "Cheezy!"
I inquired if that was what he wanted to do?
"Cheezy" and Kung Fu are bestest friends,"
he said, I could see his point, I didn't argue.

My little ones have always taught me more
than I could ever teach them!
I had placed an older cape on the top
in badly need of a hem!
If my little ones could give the best of their
hearts, then I must follow.
I took if off and held it close,
my beautiful new fur parka coat yellow!
I took back my old winter cape,
I'll sew up the hem again, for one more year.
No one will ever know this is it's fifth
winter,but still, a good cashmere.

My oldest daughter was holding her favorite
game, and puzzle.
I couldn't watch as she stuck them in with
her favorite books of fables!
With tears in each one of our eyes,
we sealed the box, and then a surprize!
Everyone felt so wonderful and light!
After we carried them to the car,
I held all three of them close and tight!

The best is yet to come, what a delight!
We each handed out our favorite, and I wish
you could have seen their eyes so bright!
I hope mine remembered that cold winter
night, they opened their little hearts and gave
with all their might!
We'd always been told, "It makes you more
happy to give than receive",
but on this night we had really felt it!
That was our highlight!

We also learned it's really not giving
unless you give something you'd like to keep.
When you give a favorite away, it's like
giving a great big heap!
Like pieces of your heart way down deep!
The more generous you be, the more you reap!

"Always give of yourself
generously, and you
will always be,
very very happy!
*smiles*

what a wonderful write - and it is true - when you give from the heart it comes back to you.
I bet the kids remember that night and it still makes them feel good to think about it.

hugs

It is not hard for us to see,
the sweet woman that you be,
It also leaves your children free,
To love and fully honor thee

Oh how I love to see a child's face when their hearts realize how good it feels to give. It adds such depth to them in such marvelous ways. It seems to broaden their view of the world. My children certainly broadened my view of love!

Loving hugs,
Rita
