GRAMMA'S OLE BLUE ROCKEN CHAIR

Contributed by emystar on Thursday, 5th February 2004 @ 11:06:24 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

She was only 4 or 5
she fit jus rite from
side 2 side
Head on one handle
feet hanging from other.
Sitten rite by Gramma's
wood heater

She'd be chillen in
Gramma's ole blue
rocken chair.
Rocken, rocken, she'd
be chillen in Gramma's
ole blue rocken
chair.

Hours on end she'd
rock herself to sleep
then wake up only 2
chill, slowly rocken
over-n-over, over,
again.

Dedicated to my Gramma
Cassie l. Haynes
deceased

Awww, Emy this made me smile and reminded me of my grandmother. She had a metal gliding swing that had numerous throw pillows and an afghan always nearby. I'd half lay on her, falling asleep to the sounds it would make. Sometimes she would hum. Your gramma's rocking chair brought sweet memories to my mind. We were blessed to have them. Kie

I loved my GrandMomma and GrandDaddy more than life itself. GrandDaddy accidentally shot a momma squirrel one day and when he saw her nest he had my uncle climb up and get the babies. GrandMomma raised those babies and I can remember her sitting in her rockin chair on the porch shelling peas or beans or knitting and those squirrel babies playing all over her and the rockin chair. Such beautiful memories you brought back. Thank you. Rita

What a nice tribute to your grandmother. Your poem takes me back to an old gray haired lady in a rocking chair with me on her lap. It is my only memorie of her, as she died when I was just three. In fact, all the rest of my grandparents died before I was born, which makes our grandkids even more precious.

Wonderful poem, thanks for mentioning it, and thanks for reading and commenting on my poems.

God bless,
Willofree
