The Journey Of Parenthood
Almost two years ago a life-changing event occurred.
My wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy.
Little did I know how my life would be turned upside down.
The reality of a little life being totally dependent on you.
Was overwhelming, scary and yet at the same time joyous.
Coming home from the hospital, little did I know my life had just begun.
Every two hour feedings, dirty diapers, and a cry that could break glass.
Was a quick reality check that my life was forever changed.
More than once I’ve asked myself, What have I done?
But soon both of us got used to our new world.
And life as we knew it became easier by the day.
And what in the beginning felt like chores were now acts of love.
A love that’s indescribable, a love that only a parent can understand.
We grew closer every day, I learned what you wanted before you had to cry.
The bond of father and son was stronger than ever.
Together we both experienced many firsts.
Your first smile, first laugh, your first gripping of my thumb.
The first time I had to leave you and go to work.
You know you’ve met contentment and fulfillment in your life.
When you’re away, and you can’t wait for the moment to be home.
Can’t wait to have your family near you.
Looking into my son’s eyes is like looking into a mirror.
I see myself so much in him, from his smile, to his laugh, to his mischievousness.
I couldn’t put into words how proud he makes me feel.
This journey of parenthood has been a life altering event.
One that has taken my wife and I many years to decide upon.
But has turned out to be the best decision we ever made.

Very good. Very well put. I too was scared as all can be when my first child was born, my son. Not knowing what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and if I could even do it. Then I held him for the first time, and none of that mattered. I knew no matter what, I had this gift and I would overcome any thing. Then came my daughter, you would think one child would teach you about another. Oh My no. My daughter was and is even more difficult. But without them, I would not be the man I am today, nor be as happy as I am. Enjoy every moment with your children, because those memories are the ones the make the bad days go away. Great write.

Jeff; isn't it a wonderful path to be walking down. Children are a gift from God, for sure. But wait, my dear, until you find the path to Grandparent-land. You have a ways to go, but believe me you will think God handed them to you personally from the heavens. A gift to you from God and your own child. It is a heaven born experience. Rita |
