A Dying Society

Contributed by LaurenShields on Wednesday, 4th February 2004 @ 10:35:35 PM in AEST
Topic: AmericanTragedy

Men look with cotemplating eyes,
At my 15 year old body,
As if illegal is a word they do not know.
And I'm starting to see the potency of my own sexuality,
Like a gun that is cocked and ready to mame the next interested eye that casts a glance.
I'm on a quest for maturity,
And people say I have the world by the tail,
As if it were a good thing,
Something I should be proud of.
I look at the world,
This weak and pitiful planet that I hold in my palm,
Children having children,
Death is waiting at the next gas station,
Laying patient in the barrell of someone's loaded gun.
The bum on the sidewalk hops into his Mercedes,
And heads home to his penthouse by the beach.
Teenagers plot their own deaths with more enthusiasm than they've ever shown,
And the man on the radio says we're due for a break in the rain,
But the sun has died and there is no one to keep it burning because God is not in our hearts and we have mutilated our Bibles.
Our society is crumbling and all we know of good has taken the first flight to hell,
Leaving us abandoned in our own drunken violence and sarcastic rage,
Oh yes,
I do believe we are something to be proud of,
Nations killing nations,
Have we forgotten how to love?

Awesome poem. What you said is true: The reason our society is falling apart is because God is not at the heart of it. God bless you for this bold statement.

You are so wise for only 15.......my you have nailed it again.
For the Bible says, "the love of the greater number will cool off! and that is the first sign of the "last days" of this godless system!
God has got to intervene here soon, or man will kill man off!
This was a fantastic poem....i'm still amazed at your age....you have much insight....and you have been right! about everything.
