I wrote you another letter today.
We didn’t have much to do.
I hope you got the last one,
I sent it on its way.
I’m sitting here all alone
In my cold hard bed.
But the thought of you keeps me warm
And I can’t wait to hear you on the phone.
I’m leaving for combat tomorrow.
It shouldn’t be that hard,
They say it’s only a one day mission
So honey, put away your sorrow.
I got another letter today.
I couldn’t help but let loose a tear,
When you told me how you felt.
I just, I don’t know what to say.
I’m glad that we’re together though,
I can’t wait for your return.
I’m anxious to see your smiling face,
And watch our favorite show.
I hope that you continue to write
And tell me about your day
Mostly so that I know you’re still alive
And you’ve made it through the night.
I’m sitting in our fox hole
Waiting for the signal
This too will soon be over
And we will end with all control.
They’ve given us the final call
I must be on my way
I send my love and best wishes too
May God pray that we get through this haul.
I got another letter today,
But this one wasn’t from you
A single tear fell from my eye
As the yellow taxi drove away.
I didn’t dare to look inside
I already knew what it said.
How? Why? I can’t explain
But all I want to do is hide.
What am I going to do tomorrow
When I call the state
How will I explain you’re a father?
How will I put away my sorrow?
Hello my dear I’m finally here
Can’t you see me now?
I’m here to feel your sweet embrace,
And wash away your fears.
I’ve made it through the blackened night
And all the way back home
I’m here to comfort you right now
And make your smile bright.
I promised you I’d always be there
And back to you I came.
I’ll be here for eternity
With never ending care.
