Broken Smiles

Pain is just a virtue,
Something I know as a familiar voice.
Without it, life would be just another day.
I try to hide it with the smiles I show,
Or the drugs that I hope can solve it all.
But it only lasts so long,
Soon enough the smiles disappear,
And the feeling of happiness fades away.
I return to the night, crying myself asleep.
Wondering why God chose me,
To be the one with broken smiles,
Why he choose me to have a broken heart.
I’ve taught myself not to love,
I’ve taught myself not to feel,
But I’ve yet to teach myself how to forget it all.
The pain will stay inside me,
Even though I force myself to prevent the sorrows,
Prevent the rivers of flowing tears.
I still can’t help but feel the pain,
That causes me to smile it all away.
But as much as I try,
I still cant teach myself to forget it all.
