holding my breath
in case you change your mind
driving south again
listing to one side
while I listen to a song
that reminds me of you
I remember about us
when feelings were new
everything possible
seemed to open before us
sun on our faces and wind at our backs
a long time ago
now feelings have drained
into muddy confusion
why did I loved you
question the feelings
take me for granted
take me or leave me
those are the choices
we've grown gray in the shadows
too tired to fight
so we keep on going
I hold onto your hand
a false smile on my face
trying to please you
the markers add up to a very long time
