  Social

for my sisters' sake

Contributed by rain on Thursday, 29th January 2004 @ 11:58:52 PM in AEST
Topic: Event

i still remember it even now as if it only happened yesterday
flowers were berely in bloom
and the trees had just turned green again
the earth was still wet from last nights rain
and your face was wet from tears
you called us to you
but your voice failed you
no words came
so she, your friend
talked for you
while new tears fell down your face
'girls your moms in some trouble'
she spoke as if we we're babys
what for i wondered
'shes going to have to go away for a while'
where to, i wanted to ask
'your going to come stay with me at my house'
but why was all i wanted to know
so i asked and all she said
was i was to young to know
i screamed at her your not my mom
im old enough to know alot
im not a baby anymore
so she told us
' your moms been doing drugs'
i knew what she ment
but i didnt understand
my mom would never do such a thing
amy cried and the woman comforted her
but i drifted of into my thoughts
this couldnt be shes lieing
and if shes not then what has mommy been hiding
this secret explained so much
the loss of memory
the locked bedroom door
and why she never cared where we were
it had to be true
and if it was then
my mom wasnt who i thought she was
anger boiled inside me
i wanted to cry but i refused to
so i hid among my thoughts
i had to be stronge for my sisters
i had to be strong for us
if i wasnt who would be
so i grew up in that instant
i put away all childhood things
and at thirteen i became an adult
for my sisters sake.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
