I was reminded of you the other day
And I turned back the pages
of my diary
Page by page
For many pages
Many stories of tears and blood
All signed; me
Until I found yours
The story of you
The pages of you
I was reminded of you the other day
I’m not sure if it was the water
Dripping by my window
From a gray icicle
That reminded me of the tears we cried when we were joyful together
Or if it was when I walked by the heater
In a trance
That reminded me of your warmth
Or could it have been the cold wind
in my ears?
Whispering the way you used to
with your consoling voice?
I forgot you the other day
I forgot the way you would strike me
even when I fell down the stairs and saw familiar bruises
I forgot how you would make me cry
even when I got shampoo in my eye
I even forgot how you used to smell like Paul Mitchell shampoo
Even though I cried it for an hour.
The other day I forgot how badly you had hurt me,
I just remembered feeling warm.
