she sits in the armchair
near a frost-speckled window
steamed from her erratic, shallow breath
involuntarily, she thinks,
and the ghosts of innocence lost,
trust betrayed,
and nobility forgotten,
rise to haunt her again.
with brutal force,
she thrusts her mind away
and rubs furiously
at reddened eyes that dare not cry
and the ghosts of belief gone,
hope dashed,
and forgiveness ungiven,
rise to haunt her again.
slowly then swift
the tears trickle down
like so many melted snowflakes
so many clear drops of blood
and the ghosts of love unrequited,
confession scorned,
and cruelty unrevenged,
rise
--oh, how they rise!--
to haunt her again.

I only listened I didn't give you any ideas on this one. It is a MASTERPIECE. You made me cry when I read this-
"slowly then swift
the tears trickle down
like so many melted snowflakes
so many clear drops of blood
and the ghosts of love unrequited,"
You really touched me with this write and made the tears come alive.

When I read poetry this great, I feel like burning everything i've ever written and realizing that i'll never be this good.
Right off, the title caught me. Your descriptions were astoundingly vivid, and you captured the perfect mix of darkness and sadness. A true achievement.
Truly,
-Dan |
