I went out for a walk last week
My lunchtime stroll to the Post Office, and other errands
It was very cool, the winds strong at their peak
The cityscape of trees and grass, some so barren
What before me, as I look down, on the cement walk
But a lonely small brown dove
She was scared as you can see, shivering, but didn’t baulk
As I picked her up, she was cupped in my hand like a glove
I looked her over, not a mark in site
I believe she was in shock, as the wind knocked her down
I knew I couldn’t keep her, deciding her plight
Still holding her against me, to keep her sound
I decided to put her in an oval little nest on the ground
Under a bush, in the park, not far away
From where she was first found
Oh she seemed to just settle in and stay
For I also knew doves do nest on the ground they lay
Well, I went back to work, of course worried I let her go
I prayed to God, and ask him to watch, and care for her
For I had to go home, not sure if she survived, I didn’t know
So the next day I did check, nothing around or to offer
Her existence, nothing laying around there
I can only hope she made it, got to her mates lair
It was so wonderful to hold that little dove
It was like a sign, from something up above
