MY FAVORITE VALENTINE DIED

Contributed by lovingcritters on Tuesday, 27th January 2004 @ 08:32:17 PM in AEST
Topic: LoveRemembered

Quiet were his way, his thoughts deeper
than any distance.
Searching constantly for answers, a
ghost of his brilliance.
I'd known him almost all my life,
a neighbor living 'cross the street.
Yet, he was much older, just a friend,
like an older brother, real neat!

Years passed without any close notice.
Then one summer, my years increased
and the span between was scoreless.
I was breathless when he
first asked for a date!
I hesitated, for a moment to adjust.......
or maybe just wait!

We dated for three solid weeks
almost every single eve.
He never approached me, n'er a kiss perceive.
We were so compatible, unreal, hard to believe?
Married in just three weeks, solid bond, yet
neither of us were naive.

A reader of books, constantly, nose stuck
in one with three opened, page chosen.
Deepest part of his heart was reserved for me
protective, considerate, fine, tender beauty.
Big dark black eyes of compassionate understanding.
No need for speech, they conveyed
his every yearning.

A Field Engineer for Western Electric Company
Installing the guidance system in the
Nike Ajax Missile broadly.
We moved every single month all over the world.
Newly weds traveling, so deeply in love,
our hearts swirled!

In Hartford Connecticut, if my mind's
memory aligns.
He was always very romantic, roses, refined.
A small package wrapped beautifully
after we dined.

Inside the wrapping I found a huge
complicated book!
I couldn't image, but would have never hurt
his heart, so I slowly took another look!
It was the Russian Poet's book known
as "Dr. Zhaivago.
Generous and giving, he was so thrilled,
and so sure I'd like this gift, I didn't want my
disappointment to show.

The names in that book were inches long,
and I had to make a list just to keep track.
Because it was pure drudery trying to read,
and stay focused, my interest soon would lack......
He was so pleased when I had put the book down.
He relished reading it one Saturday
all day until sundown.

You see he had lived as a bachelor for many years, he was 28, loved his books galore.
It was a book he thought he would adore, so give it to me with much amour!
We'd only been married about 6 months or more.

Valentine's Day never comes my way, without
remembering our first Valentine's Day.
After I grew older, I read his treasured book,
and loved it page by page in everyway!

Our wedding picture Sept 6, 1958,
I lost my favorite Valentine, March 10, 1971
The day he died!

liked Bob too,
he was a very kind
and decent man!"

The way you remember him, the images, all those unique characteristics, the romance, travelling. Is a great tribute to what you all have. He sounds like a person I would have loved to have known. You both were very beautiful people in your wedding photo. I am so sorry you lost your favorite valentine. This is the way to remember someone. Kie

I don't know what to say ... your poems are more like stories that wrap around the heart ... this one, so heartfelt - and when you add a photo! it makes it all the more real ... I feel your loss so deeply ... Jan
