“My fair lady I must go,
the horns of war begin to blow.”
“But, my lord, what will I do?
I know I cannot go with you.”
“Remain, good lady, where thou are,
for my journey will be far.”
“How, my lord, can I survive?
when you aren’t here, I cannot thrive.”
“Be strong, my love, you have no choice,
my strength comes from your sweet voice.”
“Oh, my lord, it’s hard to do,
you see, my lord, I love you.
You, my lord, are mine own life,
my heart will shatter like brittle knife.”
“Lady, lady, can’t you see?
this is how things have to be.
Lady, I know, your love is true,
I tell you lady, I love you too.
However, lady, I must go soon,
and travel by the light of the moon.
So lady, give me one sweet kiss,
and grant me one last moment of bliss.”
To bed they went,
an afternoon spent.
Then evening came,
things could never be the same.
Alas, he left, and lady wept,
for following weeks she never slept.
Many months passed, autumn drew near,
after he left, ‘twas almost a year.
‘Twas nine months to be exact,
male heir was no longer lacked.
He bore his name, but not the cross,
trod not on sand, but crawled on moss.
Our lady loved them both the same,
‘tis why they both bare the same name.
Thund’rous knocking on the door,
resounded through the nearby moor.
Then soon entered our brave lord,
who had survived a heathen horde.
Tears of joy ran down his face,
while welcomed by his lady’s embrace.
“Thank God, my lord, you have returned,
within my soul, sorrow has burned.”
“See, my lady, I’m now here,
forever, lady, I’ll stay near.”
“That, my lord, is great to hear,
me thinks you’ll find our small son dear.”
Toddling in comes the small lad,
the lord’s heart exceedingly glad.
“My lord, this is our little boy,
who has brought me so much joy.
His name, my lord, is same as yours,
I gave it while you fought your wars.”
“His eyes, my lady, same as mine,
his nose, my lady, same as thine...
I love you both, with all my heart,
I solemnly swear we’ll never part.”
