The light at the hall's end

The vacant streets lay still and dead
The wind pushes on my head
The cold wind chills me to the bone
I know now I am alone
My house is gray and filled with gloom
As if to hail my short life’s doom
The halls are dark and I am blind
I begin to hum to ease my mind
I slowly creep through the hall
Moving my hand along its wall
Slowly darkness turns to light
I squint my eyes at such a sight
The town is still and quite dead
Though this thought fills me with dread
There is none left here in sight
All have gone with the light
