What is ‘forever’?

Contributed by Euphoria on Tuesday, 3rd September 2002 @ 06:55:24 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

Under the giant oak tree,
There was an old man,
In comfortable perusal,
And on his face there was a look,
Of blatant refusal,
To the pros and cons of the outside world,
Carelessly in the land of the lost horizon,
Some geese cackled in the water,
And a child watched,
His contentment with bread crumbs,
The glory of discovery,
Through the blades of grass,
Of a handsome little ant hill,
And on a bench two lovers in a romantic conversation,
Pondering over the mysteries of creation,
Then asking…’will you always take care of me?
Will you lead me through the tempests?
If streaks of gray cast their mark;
Shall I to you be worthless?’
And they snuggled closer,
Making lazy promises,
Of always absolute togetherness,
Yes this was their reticent happiness,
And as the sunlight reflected,
Off a forgotten dewdrop at the edge of a shrub,
And the red-breasted robin perched on a branch,
And the caterpillar danced his secret dance,
And you, who read this composition in verse,
Felt and experienced the power of words,
A brief sojourn in the land of no time,
For learning, understanding,
Creating and enjoying,
Vivacious experiences,
These moments stay forever,
Not forever that is never,
But forever that is forever.

This was excellent verse. I loved the imagery.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
