Living My World

Contributed by maryetta on Sunday, 25th January 2004 @ 07:32:55 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

living this world of alzheimers is very cruel
families pull back in denial friends in fear
you wonder if it was something you said or did
you just cant grasp why then you become angry
living my world filled with pain and sorrow

emotions reach all levels some days there are none
isolation strikes many caregivers with no solution
there are feelings of abandoment sorrow fear
your sleep is disrupted by your nightmares of them
living my world filled with pain and sorrow

your time is wrapped around your loved one freely
but there are times you become so overwhelmed
personal identity is gone you are now a caregiver
you are now lost in time and place by alzheimers
living my world filled with pain and sorrow

then the end times hit you all the pain and misery
come closing to a finale and you begin to suddenly
feel all the terror you have avoided all these
years you do and you dont but the terror is there
living my world filled with pain and sorrow

My great aunt had alzheimers, I used to see her alot when I was little, but then she was sent to a home, so when i visted her when I was 15, she didnt know who I was, and kept forgetting.
This poem is a great write, and alzheimers is definatly something everyone needs to be aware about

I love this poem...reminds me of the day I spent iwith my grandmother before she died(Easter Sunday)...I was 4 years old... she told me she had alzheimers and I was like what is that...and at that time...she couldn't remember...and she didn't remember me that night...but I still told her I loved her...I hugged her and I kissed her...and the next day when I came home from church..I went up there because my mom wasn't at the house...she was crying and then I cried because I realized what happened...but my grandmother didn't remember me the day before she died...thats what made me cry....
Jamie
P.S.-I love this poem...it is a great writing...Kep it up!!!!!!!!!1

Ouch. Maryetta you truly convey pain so well. Loss. I only wish it could get better. Maybe... Someday. I'm sorry for the loss. I still wish someday soon I will see something happy from you. No matter what I will keep my fingers crossed for that.
