Did She Really Dump Him

______________________________

I heard it was over
He moved out of her place
She took up with a drummer
He’s not seeing anybody
*
He said he needs a break
Doesn’t want to get burned again
He’s living in his brother’s camper
I resist the urge to take him in
*
She said he was an arrogant bastard
But I never noticed that
He just had things he wanted to do
She could never understand that
*
I saw him yesterday at the beach
He looked tired and a little rumpled
I invited him over to dinner sometime
He said he’d give me a call
*
I heard he moved in with a new girl
She’s from Colorado
I feel my heart sink
So what was I thinking anyhow
*
A knock on the door
He’s standing there …alone
I invite him in for a drink
He’s more quiet than usual
*
He says he’s tired can he stay the night
I give him a blanket and turn out the light
I wonder where Miss Denver is
But I can’t bring myself to ask
*
It’s been a month now since Miss Denver dumped him
He sleeps in my bed now
He snores and hogs the blankets
I’m still amazed when I wake up next to him

Interesting how things turn out. Good story. I liked it. Nicely written too.
