Real Friend

Topic: ChristianPoetry

You walk across the snow,
footprints left in your wake.
You pray the Lord your soul to keep,
or even just to take.
The moonlight is your path,
the stars your only friend.
You tried to find your way,
but now you're at the end.
Where did the hope all go?
Where is that joyful peace?
When did waking up with joy
come to longing for release?
As your walk slows gradually down,
you wonder when the longing changed pace.
A longing for pain from a
longing to see his face.
Snowflakes drift down,
resting on your eyelashes, the tip of your nose.
You look up the massive swirling,
and know no one knows.
Your heart breaking
being so alone.
No sound but snow softly falling,
so alone.
As the masses of snow
swirling surround you,
you pray they'll know
what it is they need to do.
Evergreen trees to your left,
buried in a gown of snow.
Tuck yourself beneath a branch,
letting your pent up tears flow.
Shaking to sleep,
wondering what you next will see.
You gave up, you just wanted
them all to leave you be.
Everything fading from memory,
such a sad tale, filled with pain.
You never even wondered what
you'd do different if you did it all again.
Wrapped in a blanket of snow,
the bare skin freezing now.
But your mind has drifted,
and you wonder how.
Too cold to move,
too tired to wake.
For the first moment in your life,
you aren't being fake.
You wallow in your pity,
you wallow in your frozen tears,
until someone grasps your hand,
and calms all your fears.
He wraps you in his arms,
picks you up and carries you away.
He holds you tight,
despite those nasty things you never meant to say.
You long to reassure him,
you never meant those words of doubt.
But your lips are sealed from a whisper,
let alone a shout.
As you'd left without a word,
he'd watched you leave without a sound.
He knew he'd be there,
the moment you hit the ground.
He'd promised he'd always be there,
because, regardless, he loves you.
And with such cold inside your soul,
you could only let him love you.
Only he could save a soul,
so wretched, cold, alone.
He's forgiven you those words,
and tells you so in a sympathetic tone.
He holds you closer
as he begins to speak.
"I've been through all this too,
I too, was one of the meek.
I let them mistreat me,
for you.
I let them mock me,
for you.
I hung upon that cross,
and endured their mocking chants.
I lived through all the pain,
so I understand your every rant.
Yes, my dear, the world is cold,
all I loved, all I knew.
Yet they scorned me,
just like you.
Don't let those doubts get you down,
don't let those words inside.
I love you my darling child,
please don't try to run and hide.
I endured death, beat it,
and rose again, for you.
I gave everything I had,
what else could I do?"
You grasp him to yourself,
Pray a silent prayer from deep inside.
The longing for pain replaced,
gone those feelings of pride.
The stars above now comforting,
the moon obscured by his light.
His warmth invading every crevice,
you know that all will be all right.
He sets you down upon your feet,
as the snow falls all around.
You close your eyes and listen,
and hear not a single sound.
The snow falls silently
upon your upturned face.
You think to thank him
for bringing you to this place;
but upon opening your eyes,
all you see is softly falling snow.
Yet your warmth and peace has not faded,
and you wonder if anyone else could know.
The moonlight becomes your path once again,
but this time it's going home, it's not the end.
You were rescued by your one true,
really forever friend.
