TOASTIE

Topic: PetPoems

The last puppy born at last!
All the others were pure black
She tumbled from the womb,
on navy blankets of fleece.
She's the wrong color, a foreign
related niece?

As white as a snowball, against the Navy.
A huge scoop of mashed potatoes,
without any gravy. *smiles*
Something is wrong with this puppy?
Bleached, droopy, and druggie!

Her mother never liked her much
The others pushed her,
didn't want to touch.........
That's when my kind hearted feelings
took hold!
No one loves her, I'll love her fourfold!

Therein began the relationship we
have had ever since.
My heart's branded with her little paw prints.
An old yellow fleece robe I'd made,
for the temps in Illinois were chilly & low!
I kept her warm in the folds of my robe, as I sat nestled between my legs,
on her back to grow!

She has always been a lover, not a fighter.
But she can hold her own if others bite her!
Kind, considerate, obedient to the word.
She's our hunter of squirrels, never deterred.

Best little mother...4 little bumpkins.
Born in the mountains, all black 1 set of twins.
On our long walks together, she'd leave
us to go investigate.
Checking on her puppies,
she'd insist we wait!

All white except for the brownish ears
and facial marks.
She has outlined eyes, like a sophisticated
lady, but not when she barks.
She is very protective, and hates to be teased.
She has dignity, and becomes very displeased!

I purposely named her "Toastie"
like white bread toast!
Her warm heart and kindness is felt in her most!
She's been my hot water bottle for many a year.....
Her back to mine, we both sleep
securely cohere.

I've loved all my special little critters,
they're bonds of my heart.
But my Toastie girl was a wee bit different,
she was unloved, and set apart!
I could relate to her dilemma, since I too,
was unloved as a pup!
We love each other very much, replacing
the love we never got,
trying to make up!

Please excuse me, I meant to say that Toastie has been my hot water bottle that you take to bed to stay warm with. Just realized I left off the "bottle" part! Sorry
