Walking him to his death!

Walking down the very dim hall
To my left and right are cell doors
The only thing that separating me
From them
Some of them here are for petty crimes
Others are here for murder
Each step I take the quieter it gets.
They all know what’s about to happen
As I reached cell number 56
There is a man kneeling in the corner
Praying
“O’ Lord forgive me for I have sinned
I have taken the life of an innocent man
And know my time has come
Please allow me to enter the
Pearly Gate
For I know I have done wrong
Amen"
Finishing
Time to go
Giving him all respect
Getting up
Door still open
Total quiet
His head hanging down
Simultaneous steps to mine
Every inmate is praying for him
Here they are treated with respect
Not like animals
Some say why treat them with respect, they’re animals
We arrive at the chamber of death
Which the inmates named
For a lot of people have lost their lives their
Sitting in the chair
Getting strapped down
A tear running down his cheek
They ask him
Any last words?
Yes
“I am sorry for what I have done
I know that I can not turn back time
For my sin, but if I could I would,
I am guilty, so do not stop
It may bring relief to the family”
Placing the black mask
Over his face
Hooking the wires to his body
Closed the door
Flick the switch
All over
He’s dead
Family still grieving
More than ever

A very good poem I really like the perspective. It shows the sadness of the moment for all people involved. |
