From far away
Their echoed songs
Drift back to us
Their carven harps
Silver strung
Calling from the past
Songs they sing
Of sparkling streams
In woven wood
Of crashing sea
And sunlight shining
On the hair of the Celt
Of brazen blades
Lifted high
Flashing in battle
On ancient fields
When golden Bél
Was in the sky
Sunlight fades
Sea-fog drifts
From ancient days
On standing stones
That echo songs
Calling from the past

So those are the voices I keep hearing in my head... YAH!!! Maybe that's where I was when I fought my battle for love...
May their voices always ring true.
May they never fade.
May their blades always flash in the morning light.
Keep writing cousin.

I love the imagery and romanticism of this poem, Andrew. it's simply stunning. I could picture the coast of Ireland and the pipes in the second stanza, and in the third stanza I could SEE the valiant Celtic warriors going into battle. I love you taking the reader from the mist in the last stanza, and the pipes almost seemed to fade in my imagination. This may be one of your simplest writes, but it may be one of your best. Impressive work. God bless.
Your sister in Christ,

This poem like more recent music stirs a great longing in me. ( I am a member of an old Scottish highland clan "Mackay" which traces back to Ireland before about 1200.AD)
I have been researching Christianity in the light of recent discoveries (The Dead Sea Scolls, Dag Hammadi, etc.
recently translated) and am amazed at what has been left out of the bible about the history of the first centuary AD.
If you care to take a look at my latest poem you will see where I (and many others) have got to.
It is my intention to study the pre-Christian religions and you have given me a good start.

I have never been one for history and culture, but you could easily change my mind. This was beautiful.

Great depiction of their lost homeland.
Try checking out mine, although I made a lot of parameter mistakes in mine. |

I've always liked most Celtic things... and I've often thought of going to Ireland someday. This is a really stunning poem, Andrew. Very... misty. I like it.

Quite well done. I feel a pull towards the Irish in me, (if there is any, I have it all). Although the SO does not understand it. "I dwell too much in my mind". On, well, too much bother to find another. Thank you for the review, and I decided to check out your stuff. Not sorry I did. I have read a few of them so far, not too shabby. I seriously thought I was the only one writing in that genre here. Glad to find someone else. Mae govannen, mellon.
