Happy memories mixed with painul tears come flooding back,
They form a river flowing in waves of red, white and black,
Up in the suns domain; a brilliant blue sky,
An American flag flies high,
Behind is a red-brick school house; it has stood there long,
Since 1936 it has stood tall and proud; 67 graduating classes strong,
Its halls posses my heart, my joy, my laughter
The only laughter I have ever known,
Now as I look back, I find I am chasing after
The happiness that from being there in my heart had grown,
The real world is full of hatred and pain,
The tears have on my face left a stain,
I gaze at the stars up above,
And send to them my wishes and love,
The cold, damp, inky-black night
Sets my heart afright,
I am standing on the cliff by the cemetary; the landscape stretches before me wide and vast,
I close my eyes and remember summer last,
Cheers and songs come back from a year now past,
I hear a whisper, it ecchos eerily,
It wafts through the thick night merrily,
I cannot distinguish its tune or words, it caputures my attention with a snap,
I suddenly recognize it; and as I turn and look back,
I see last year,
My eyes shed many a tear,
All my friends are there,
"We have been waiting for you" they say,
I run to them gladly; not giving this world another thought or care,
This is where I shall forever stay,
In MY world, in MELBA's past,
I have gone home at last.

Wow... I so relate to this. For some reason I've been so stuck in the past lately, moreso than usual. Even though I'm happy to be rid of most of it, there's a part of me that misses something about everything... the simplicity of this, the predictability of that... I've always had problems letting go, but it's getting ridiculous! But anyways, this is such a sad and touching write, I very much enjoyed it. Off to read the next one now.

Stunning. I have been there. If only we could recapture the past, if even for a day.
Great poem, really got me thinking.
Truly,

Miss Lee, this was brillantly put together in prose, but the future holds so many new discoveries, though often filled with pain, happiness will soon arrive, loved the way you wrote this one, take care Val |
