To My Father

It has always been like this between us:
A true deep, but mute love governs us.
I can see all the love your eyes silently express,
But my words withdraw with bashfulness.
O great, honorable, steady mountain,
When will I reach your crystal fountain?
Shall I always love thee at far distance?
Will I be able to break the barriers of silence?
I contemplate and wonder with a sigh,
Will I be able to look you in the eye?
And say that I love you, dearest father,
That I’m really proud to be your daughter.
No…such feelings I cannot declare.
Whatever I want to say will not be fair!
So let it be, let our mute love remain in its shell,
Thereby it will say more than all words can tell.
