“When you travel through the
place in which you were born,
you travel through yourself.”
The hospital I was born in
Is an abandoned building now.
The house where I spent
The first year of my life,
Has been torn down.
The island where my grandparents lived,
Is being paved over.
My grandparents are long dead.
Most of the businesses
In the town where I was raised
Are boarded up.
They've ripped out about
A quarter of the woods in the area
(Not cut down mind you,
But plowed under)
And replaced them with empty fields.
I admit it was only scrub wood,
But it was also my peace.
Walking in among the trees
Was like swimming underwater
Only I could still breath.
Even the tire shredder is gone.
The landscape of my childhood is gone.

I hear u.
I sit here and preserve the land I grew up on but accross the road in front of me they clear cut it. I've registered my back yard as a natural animal habitat. They r cutting woods around me and developing houses at a high rate of speed.
I have close to three acres that has natural Springs etc. I'm here to preserve it all.
Anyways this is agreat write and it's very creative!
peace, joy, luv,

Times change. It is inevitable. Look at me, I used to be young and inexperienced, but now I have grown knowledgeable, albeit old. But I choose not to dwell on such thoughts. |
