Dreaming of Africa

As I sit,
In this basement,
Half-furnished,
But brightly lit,
By photographic lights,
And thoughts of you,
Constantly waking,
From sleepless sights,
I dream of Africa,
Heavy sighs abound,
Walls and ceiling gone,
Picturing what you saw,
I trick my brain,
Fool my senses,
So we lay in the vastness,
Of the African plain,
Whispering, “Don’t worry dear,
The fire may be dying,
But we’ve still got the stars,
So there’s no need for fear”,
When the night gets cold,
And I’m certain that it will,
I’ll wrap us in this blanket,
And we’ll hug and kiss and hold,
And when we’re close to sleep at last,
When we’re on the very edge,
I’ll quickly kiss you, promising,
That dreams will come as fast,
I wonder what we’ll see,
In our dreams that night,
Underneath the starry sky,
Sleeping, you and me.

| I liked it. Had some really strong lines in this one. I think Africa just got added to my list of places to visit... Just so long as I can stay away from those damn lions... Lol. |
