LIFE JUST AIN’T WHAT IT’S CUT OUT TO BE.
NOT MUCH HAPPINESS,TOO MUCH SICKNESS AND DISEASE.
DAY AFTER DAY,WE WORK BY THE HOUR.
IF WE HAVE TO STAY LATE, THEN OUR TEMPER GETS SOUR.
IF THE JOB IS NOT DONE, IN THE TIME THAT’S ALLOTTED,
YOU’RE BRANDED AS TOO SLOW, AND YOUR RECORD GETS BLOTTED.
KEEPING THIS UP FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE,
CAN ONLY CAUSE MUCH MORE MISERY AND STRIFE.
LIFE MUST HOLD MORE THAN THIS DAILY COMMOTION.
BUT IF I COMPLAIN, I’M TOLD THAT’S A FOOL NOTION.
WHY KEEP ON GOING AND WHY SHOULD I CARE?
I CAN ONLY SEE REASONS TO STAY IN DESPAIR.
LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE SOME PEOPLE HAVE MUTTERED,
WHILE LOCKING THE DOORS AND NAILING THE SHUTTERS.
SOMETHING I’M CERTAIN IS PASSING ME BY.
I CAN’T FIGURE WHAT AND I SURE DON’T KNOW WHY.
THERE’S A REASON FOR LIVING AND ALSO FOR DYING.
IT’S THE LATTER ONE NOW THAT I FEEL MORE LIKE TRYING.
I’VE POURED OUT MY HEART NOW, THAT’S ALL I WILL SAY.
I’LL TRY SMILING TOMORROW, FOR IT’S A NEW DAY.
