Not Since Then

We were stacked on the sofa like kindling
Limbs intertwined
We were one entity
And peace of mind was present
Then and there
You could feel it in the air
Such a fragile thing
This state of grace
Sunlight filtered through lace
Your smiling face
Was once the case
Fell out of grace
It's a fleeting thing
Not easily sustained
That particular effervescence
A flash of recognition
This close to perfection
My head on your chest meant
All's right with the world
Sleeping on this giant rib cage
Rhythmic breathing x 2
Hearts beating I knew
This was one of life's perfect moments
And that's really all any of us can hope for
Moments of beauty to sustain us
Through it all
