The Art Of Hiding

Contributed by manicmuze on Tuesday, 13th January 2004 @ 04:13:21 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

If I wanted to hide
In this poem
I’d slip into the skin of it,
Wear it like a cloak,
Lower my eyes
And make no sound

I would tuck myself
Under its canopy,
And sit with only
The song of another,
Words jumbled
In my lap,
Drawing circles
On the map,
Always coming back
—To this

Crinkled paper,
Splashes of ink,
Lost poems,
And me, twisting my hair
Around my pinky,
Thinking about the art
Of hiding

Between an image
And a hum,
I could come undone
And no one would know,
Where the poet
Goes to breathe
Or throw a tantrum

Like a phantom
Scrabble piece forms
Meaning, once released,
The spirit grows,
And I think, I could hide
In this poem,
—forever

Forever is a very long time. I like your writing style. You talk of the monotany as if it were something truly to talk about. I give this one a 4.7 on the Nortiscale
