It’s so bright
and there’re so many colors
that it weakens me
and all I can think to do
is stand there,
seven or eight years old,
pressed against that cage,
feeling the unquestioning silk
of that brown bear’s tongue
against my ripe cheek,
in love, thinking
“I’m Home.”
