Our relationship like a fire put out,
Ashes, soot and charred remains strewn about.
I look around for what survived,
Thinking everything died.
I find an old picture charred at the edges,
As a crow calls from the hedges.
It's a picture of him and I,
Embracing under the open sky.
That's when we were happy and free,
Now what lies ahead is a mystery.
Friends or foes,
Only he knows.
The choice is his to make,
I just don't want my heart to break.
My life has gone awry,
Lost him, my dignity, my confidence and stride.
Losing him is like losing a home,
No safety or love and being cold and alone.
I've been there in every time of need,
Putting him first without greed.
He pushes me back,
And my life fades to black.

Vey graphic, stark, (crow calls from the hedges) makes you shiver and "pull up your coat collar."
Yeah I've been there too..... good poem I know exactly how you feel
I hope you get through it'' I've written several poems about this phase in my life,
"He's not the only one"
"The way we wre"
and others
"Will we ever kow?" is a recent one that looks back from 50 yrs on.
