I like to go back to the farm,
A place I loved, full of charm,
For a barefooted little girl, I had everything
A world full of chickens, sheep, and cows, milking
A small creek came thru the pasture,
Wood sticks for fishing, yarn for string, chicken wire for a hook
I sit for hours catching snapping turtles, well I mastered!
Tall grass; flowers to lie in, counting shapes of clouds I took
Swimming in the water, muskies nibbled your toes,
Good clean fun it was, with my friend Mary Rose.
Woods were an endless trail for me,
The red fox seen each year with his family,
Not sure who was scared more, I or the black bear,
As I was initiated into the older kids hangout there!
Tobogganing was a treat, about a half-mile up
What a ride down, if you didn’t get a bumpy wallop!
Ice-skating on the pond was a treasure
We had it all to ourselves, what a pleasure
Frogs, crayfish, salamanders, snakes too
Insects, bobcats, wild deer, and raptors flew.
It was a wild paradise, cultured life I knew
This was no dream; this was part of my childhood
Innocence of my youth, lived it so
Would love to go back if I could,
Escaping to my wild dreams pasts they flow.
