My Concerns

Many times I’ve wondered
Truthfully, it’s constant doubt
With my children, have I blundered?
For too often they’ve heard me shout
No matter how beleaguered
Or how weary I may be
Even if I’m angered
My shouting isn’t healthy
Do I pay them enough attention?
Do they really even care?
There’s often lots of tension
They seem, to not want me near
They’ve been through more than they should
No child should experience so much
Through so much pain they’ve stood
During which, it seems we’ve lost touch
There once was a time
When we were close
Together we’d climb
And battle pretend foes
Even though I’m mom
We all used to play
Whether rowdy or calm
Together, we’d enjoy the day
It’s amazing how things change
And not always for the better
At some point, whether short or long range
Being with mom is of no matter
Will they ever let me close again?
Could it already be too late?
Is this the consequence of my sin?
Is this truly our fate?

Im guessing this is true but I dunno. If it is dont worry your kids still love you. I know they do. I have a Dad like that. He's always yelling and shouting when he's mad but when he wants to be he's really nice. Although I say I hate him sometimes, inside I really dont. So, trust me on this one. They dont have you. |

Very good poetry. I have 2 children myself. Although they are only 6 and 4, I often ask myself the same questions. There is one thing though, as a parent we will always think we never did enough, loved enough, taught enough, or cried and laughed enough. One thing though is that, you will always be their mother and they will always keep you close in their hearts. You will forever have that bond with them. As a father I know my bond is not as strong as with their mother, that and they live with her... But we always want to better what we did with our children. Watch them as young adults, that is when you will know, you did more then enough....
Keep your head up :D

The trouble with being a parent is there is no report card along the way. Kids grow and their priorities change and they look at their parents differently. I guess it's hard because when they are toddlers, they are in awe of their parents. When they get to be teenagers, they are impatient and critical of their parents. I think when they grow up and have kids of their own, they'll be appreciative of their parents. Let's hope so.
