Surprising Anger

Contributed by ToriVeigh on Wednesday, 7th January 2004 @ 07:37:29 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I can’t believe I’m so angry
It came as such a surprise
Some fault is mine, I agree
To make up for it, I did try

Of all people, she would know
How those words would sting
Complete disregard did she show
When hateful words she did fling

This surpasses anger over my actions
Now she’s just throwing a fit
A totally unexpected reaction
Maybe she wants to stay alone in her pit

If she really felt that way
And she truly was my friend
You’d think I’d have heard her say
The faults that I’d need to mend

People accept things easier
When coated with honey, not salt
Words put a little friendlier
Don’t sound like, “It’s all your fault!”

If she’d really wanted to help
Instead of just to hurt
She would have cared what I felt
And such meanness, she’d not blurt

If I didn’t really care
If I hadn’t thought her a friend
I wouldn’t have laid my heart bare
To the hurt she did intend

It’s not just the attack
That brings about the anger
It’s the hurt that does wrack
And the rage it does anchor
