The autumn clouds gather
Rolling slowly across the small town quiet
Oak leaves tense in anticipation
Of the wrenching winds to come
The birch tighten their iron grip
And brace their bark against the chilling
All things join in sigh
Breathing in the last long warmth of sun
October celebration colors emerge
For the frantic dance of dying
Spent then drained
The cold shadows fold into nocturnal slumber
Memories fall away in swirls
Mere dreams of another time
The world sleeps___
As Man prepares again for War

That last line is a real sharp turn in the subject of the poem.... I think it catches the reader off guard in a way, and makes them think harder about the poem. Here you go thinking it's just a nature poem, then it switches gears, and you're left to think about it...... A real interesting ending.... Great write....
God bless,
Ellen |
