Fools Gold

I am not what you think.
I do not smile, I do not cry.
Emotionless I am.
My eyes tell lies,
I hold no truth.
I can make you believe,
That you need,
What I can give.
But I cannot,
And do not,
Have a thing,
For you.
I may look fine,
But inside I hide.
From the dark, from the truth,
From myself, from you.
I am not what you think.
To hide my tears, I do blink,
And shrink, so I try not to think.
I never write in ink because it's there to stay,
And nothing in my life is ever that way.
What I need,
And what I want,
Are of sideline importance.
Because I am not what you think.
I wait,
To delegate,
The rules of my life,
Rules to live by.
I am not what you think,
Because all that glimmers is not gold,
And my stories have been told,
And sold,
To your ignorant mind.
Not my kind.
Don't you see?
I am not you think you think I should be.

wonderful write! The emotion was expressed well. This was my favorite line: "I never write in ink because it's there to stay,
And nothing in my life is ever that way."
