Happiness

Contributed by Jeni on Friday, 30th August 2002 @ 11:14:11 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

A tear runs slowly,
Down a soft wet cheek.

A flower wilts,
No longer at its peek.

A small child wails,
From the Sadness of life.

Its makes one start to wonder,
Why we’re forced to live this strife.

And then you soon remember.
Then you start to smile.

For one cannot know happiness
Without going through a trial.

One would not know how to smile
Without learning how to frown.

One cannot truly giggle,
Without having a tear falling down.

If one never learns,
What its like to cry

How can they ever learn
How to smile, how to try?

Without going through hardship,
Without learning what is fear.

You will never become stronger,
You will never hold what's dear.

Cuz, for every tear that leaves your face,
For every frown you express.

You get a step towards happiness,
And learn to deal with stress

And if you take away those trials,
And you take away the pain.

Then the smile you give isnt happiness,
And that giggle is in vain.

Its like, how can you know heat,
If you’ve never had the cold.

How can you know young
If you’ve never seen the old.

How can you be happy,
Without ever being sad.

How can you be at peace,
Without ever getting mad.

You cannot force happiness,
Nor take it from a pill.

Its something that you work for,
Its something you must feel.

So I am left stuck wondering,
I just don’t understand.

Why one tries so hard to escape the trials,
And still a smile they demand.

A lovely poem... The next time you want a smile, just do a hit of Soma. That'll take care of it for ya. :-) Butterat Zool

That's beautiful Jeni! And so true. I hope your professor gave you an A... if not you got one from me.

Makes me think though, if we go through all these trials so we will better know and appreciate happiness... pretty soon, I should be like the happiest person in the world. I would think I had it comming to me :)

Great write, I'm looking forward to reading more from you.

Curtis
