night life

Contributed by stitches on Saturday, 3rd January 2004 @ 08:18:01 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

seemingly
dark
forever
in the back of a buliding
in shambles
inhaling the silent poison
that no longer
calms my nerves
the incandescent flood light
hums me to insanity
the moth slapping
at my too pale face
tickles
yet i want to scream

"stephanie,"
i cringe,
"stephanie, it's time to go in"
the scream is put on hold
again

door sirens wail
"close it already"
as i try to roll unoiled barrels
down an all tile hall
somewhere in the lobby
a woman is screaming
barely audible
through her husk of a mouth
"MY BABY!"
and then she chokes on her sobs

it's 4 a.m. and all the lights are on
fast forward
into motion
as we pull them out of bed
i never thought
to make a bed
could drive you to crying
but each bed holds a name
for only so long

another scream
this time for momma
and from the other direction
a soft sickening thud
as someone hits the floor
running
everyones running
didn't know we could all run so fast
blood, everywhere there's blood
weak pulse, but he's not breathing
"get the cart, now!"
more footsteps
is it me?

as i clock out
i'm crying
this wasn't my relative
but then, his relatives
didn't know how to fix his bed, just so
his relatives
didn't know he liked a new joke
first thing in the morning
his relatives
didn't hold his hand when he had pnemonia
no i wasn't his relative
but i was his family

I dunno what to make of it. I loved it and I want to guess at your job. I really want to say that you work at a hospital... Dunno you could have some weird job that I've never heard of before though. This was a very cool write. I say 'Woe' was your best though.

I think u work at a hospital if I remember correctly. I didn't know a job could take such a toll. I don't think I could work there, but ne way a good poem you brought me into it.
